Clinical Types //

According to Dr. Duffy's classification, there are four types of varicose veins according to their appearances.

Type 1. Telangiectasia or Spider Vein

Blue or red vessels with diameter between 0.1mm to 1.0mm. 

Type 1A. Telangiectatic matting
Spider Vein

Vessel diameter about 0.2mm, red

Type 2. Mixed telangiectatic/varicose veins
reticular veins, varicose vein

No direct communication with the saphenous system. 1-6 mm in diameter. Cyanotic or blue.

Type 1B. Communicating telangiectasia
telangiectasia

Type 1 veins in direct communication with varicose veins of the saphenous systems

Type 3. Nonsaphenous varicose veins (reticular veins)
varicose vein

Vessel diameter 2-8 mm. Blue to blue-green

Type 4. Saphenous varicose veins
varicose vein

Usually more than 8 mm diameter. Blue to blue-green
